Club History
The time is 1989 and the place is London. Four Friends – Messer’s Sri Sritharan, Kumar Selvakumar, Para Parmakumaran and Nirmalan Nathan are reminiscing their cricketing lives back in Sri Lanka when they were younger and would play the game with makeshift bats and tennis balls. It was that exact moment when the impeccable idea – starting a cricket club was born in their hearts.
The wheels were put in motion to form the club and the First Eleven led by Sritharan played around 10 friendly matches in the first season. When all of them relocated their life in England they got the chance to watch and feel cricket more open heartedly, leading up to the idea of establishing the club.
After the club was born, it was looking for leadership under whom the club can reach new heights and recognition in the cricket community in England. So, we decided to merge with Capricorn CC which enabled us to run 2 teams on Saturdays and Sundays. With new talent onboarding and growing popularity, the club registered its first XI to play in the Middlesex Club Cricketers League. We joined the Local Community League (known as VIV League) in 1992 and gradually got the opportunities to participate in various other leagues and tournaments. As a result, we then moved to Sunny Hill Park in Hendon.
To ensure the club is financially viable, various fundraising events were organised. The most two notable ones from that period are – Dinner & Dance in 1990 and Valentines Night in 1993 with the presence of Sri Lankan household artists.
In 1993 the event of MTSSC taking part in the Middlesex Championship turned out to be a huge success as the club won consecutive promotions in 1996 and 1997. With growing popularity and members, the club was able to attract more raw talent to the clan including Sri Lankan schoolboy cricketers. Later in 1999, the club moved over to its current home ground – The Post Office Grounds to accommodate its eleven teams – two played in Middlesex Championship League and other three in 1987 league.
In 2005, one of our dreams of establishing a Colts Academy came true. We run colts teams starting from under 10 and finishing at under 17. Our Colt’s teams have been extremely successful in their respective leagues over the years and now compete with some of the biggest clubs in Middlesex. Because of our commitment to colts development and meeting the benchmarks for a high standard community club cricket, the club got fully accredited with the ECB Club Mark status in 2012.
